STOCKTON, Calif. – Dominican women's golf started strong but fell into 13th at the end of the first round of the Visit Stockton Invitational at Brookside Country Club.
No. 33 West Texas A&M led the field of 19 teams after posting an 8 over par in its first round, with No. 13 Cal State San Marcos a stroke behind them in second place. Dominican ended the round at 26 over par, four strokes behind Biola in tenth place but six strokes ahead of cross bay rival Academy of Art.
There was not much separation between the top four golfers for the Penguins as
Lauren Parayno led the way in the first round using two birdies and 10 pars to tie for 27th at 5 over par.
Claire Shubin was a stroke behind her at 6 over par to tie for 36th in the field of 104 golfers.
Angelica Antonio finished the day with 12 pars to finish at 7 over par to tie for 48th, while
Alissa Salazar finished at 8 over par to tie for 57th.
Ashley Pan bounced back from a slow start on the day to post a 3 over par on her back nine to finish tied for 72nd at 10 over par.
Dominican will return to the course Tuesday for the final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. PST.
