Claire Shubin tees off at PLNU Sea Lion Invite

Shubin helps Penguins to seventh place

SAN DIEGO – Junior Claire Shubin led Dominican women's golf to a seventh-place finish at the PLNU Sea Lion Invitational at Rancho Bernardo Inn Championship Golf Course.

Cal State San Marcos won the tournament with a 21 over par finishing with a 2-over 290 on the final day of the tournament. Host, Point Loma Nazarene University, took second at 30 over par tied with Biola. Dominican finished the two round tournament at 60 over par to top Chico State and Cal State East Bay, while the Penguins were two strokes behind Cal State Monterey Bay and four strokes behind Cal State Los Angeles.

Shubin led Dominican in both rounds posting an opening round of 5-over 77. She started strong on the front nine in the second round posting an even par and finished with a 3-over 77 to tie for 12th at 8 over par. Sophomore Lauren Parayno added back-to-back rounds of 7-over 79 including a strong finish Tuesday at 2 over on her final nine holes. Parayno tied for 25th on the individual board at 14 over par.

Junior Ashley Pan also closed strong in her final nine holes with six pars to post an 18 over par to complete the tournament, tied for 34th. Sophomore Crystal Yi rounded out the team in 58th at 36 over par at the tournament.
