Sorrick Defender of the week

Kamryn Sorrick garners PacWest Defender of the Week awards

| By:
Senior defender Kamryn Sorrick was named the PacWest Defender of the Week by the PacWest conference on Monday, Nov. 15, marking the first time the senior has won the award during her collegiate career.

"It's an honor to get this award," Sorrick said. "I knew the end of the season was around the corner and I wanted to finish out strong. Being a defender and not always having my stats appear on the scoresheet, it almost feels like being an underdog knowing that I am always being watched by people analyzing my game, it's a pressure that feeds into me knowing I have to play well."

Sorrick played in every minute of all 14 matches that she started this season, helping Dominican conclude the season with a pair of shutout victories. The Fresno, California, native helped lead a Dominican back line that only allowed seven shots to reach the target of the course of the two games it played last weekend, with no shots finding the target after the first half of Dominican's 1-0 victory over Holy Names University on Saturday.

"She's become someone we can trust," head coach Kelly Coffey said. "We appreciate players on the field that can interpret our message in the run of the game, then help disseminate that message to others, and Kam does a great job of that. I'm really happy that she was able to get this award, it's the cherry on top of a very good season for her."

Sorrick accumulated 1321 minutes of playing time during the 2021 campaign, notching a pair of shots with one finding the target. The senior showed great composure on the field, receiving no yellow or red cards despite her aggressive playing style.

"When I see individual awards, there's always a team component to all of this, but I thought Kam had an exceptional week," Coffey said. "I thought she had really good defensive games, but I also thought the offensive she showed in both of those matches was maybe more impressive. Her composure on the ball, her penetrating passes, she did everything incredibly well. There were long stretches of time that our goalies didn't even have to touch the ball, and that was a result of Kam and our back line."

Dominican concluded the season with a final cumulative record of 5-8-3 on the season, while earning a 4-6-0 record against PacWest opponents.
