SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Dominican University of California women's tennis team closed out its 2017 spring season on Thursday with a narrow 5-3 loss to Dixie State in the PacWest Conference Championships consolation match.
The Penguins, led by first-year head coach
Cristina Visico, finished with a winning record at 10-9 overall, including a 6-3 mark at home.
On Thursday in Arizona, Dominican captured one of the doubles matches before splitting the four singles contests that were completed.
Junior
Rickimae Torres put together a stellar performance, earning a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 singles spot and combining with
Cori Beeby for an 8-6 win at the No. 2 doubles position.
Thursday's consolation match marked the end of the collegiate careers for the Penguins' three seniors – Beeby,
Brooke Briseño, and
Lauren Gollnick.
Briseno finished with a victory, topping Dixie State's Kana Goldsmith by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
