OAKLAND, Calif. – The Dominican University of California women's tennis team earned a 6-3 road victory over Holy Names on Sunday.
The Penguins swept through the doubles portion to build a sizeable lead over the Hawks. The teams then split the singles matchups 3-3. With the result, Dominican improves its season record to 9-5 while HNU falls to 5-12. The Penguins have won five-consecutive matches.
The most convincing doubles win came at the No. 2 position, where
Alex Wartenberg and
Rickimae Torres came away with an 8-2 victory.
Torres also earned a singles win, topping Jahan Bayramova at the No. 1 spot by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Brooke Briseno dominated her first singles set 6-1 and then managed a narrow 7-5 result in the second set.
In the Penguins' third singles victory, Wartenberg cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 4 position.
Dominican continues its stretch of road contests with a 2 p.m. match at Academy of Art on Friday.
