ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Dominican University of California women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 result on Friday at Sonoma State.
Junior
Rickimae Torres earned the Penguins' point, defeating the Seawolves' Amanda Zuidema at the No. 2 singles position with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 score.
Dominican's record falls to 10-7 to conclude the regular season. The Seawolves entered the match with a No. 17 ranking in the national poll.
The Penguins' Saturday match at Stanislaus State was canceled. The Penguins now await the schedule release for next week's PacWest Conference Championships, which will be held April 19 through April 22 in Surprise, Ariz.
In Friday's match at SSU,
Alex Wartenberg gave her opponent a tough challenge at the No. 4 singles position. Wartenberg ended up falling, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Turning their attention to the postseason, the Penguins aim for plenty of success next week in Arizona as the team's trio of seniors –
Cori Beeby, Brooke Briseno and
Lauren Gollnick – also look to finish their Dominican careers in winning fashion.
