HONOLULU – The Dominican University of California women's tennis team earned a convincing 8-1 victory over Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday.
It marked the fourth and final match of the Penguins' Hawaii trip, which concluded with two wins and two losses. The overall Dominican record now stands at 4-4.
On Wednesday at Ala Moana Park, the Penguins swept the three doubles contests and went 5-1 in the singles portion.
Skyler Schaar and
Brooke Briseño won a thrilling 9-7 result in the No. 1 doubles spot while the other two matchups finished by larger margins in the Penguins' favor.
After splitting the first two sets in singles, junior
Rickimae Torres captured a 10-2 result in the tiebreaker to take the No. 2 position.
Sophomore
Alex Wartenberg, a Mission Viejo native, cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 finish at the No. 4 spot in singles.
Out of the No. 6 position, senior
Cori Beeby topped her opponent 6-2, 6-3 on Tuesday. Beeby went 3-1 overall in singles during the Hawaii trip, putting together the top mark among the Penguins' squad.
Dominican returns to action Saturday with an 11 a.m. home matchup against Point Loma.
