HONOLULU – The Dominican University of California women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Hawaii Pacific on Saturday to start a four-match road swing at the islands.
The Penguins' record settles at 2-2 while the nationally-ranked HPU squad improves to 4-0.
For Dominican on Saturday, the team's lone point came from a singles victory at the No. 6 position. Senior
Cori Beeby, a Vacaville native, secured a hard-fought tiebreaker win with a complete score of 6-3, 2-6 (10-8).
The Penguins put together several gritty performances, including sophomore
Alex Wartenberg's battle at the No. 4 spot in singles. She took her opponent to a tiebreaker, eventually falling 6-1, 6-7 (8-6).
The closest doubles match on Saturday was at the No. 2 position, where
Rickimae Torres and Wartenberg dropped an 8-4 result to the HPU challengers.
