SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Dominican University of California women's tennis team earned a convincing 8-1 home win over Dixie State on Tuesday.
With the victory, the Penguins improve to 7-5 overall. Dominican owns a three-match winning streak and now owns a 5-3 home mark this season.
The Penguins swept the doubles portion on Tuesday, coming up with matching 8-5 results at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and then an 8-6 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Dominican won five of its six singles matchups, including a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position by
Rickimae Torres.
Brooke Briseno earned another win at the NO. 3 position, topping Dixie State's Kyra Harames by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Briseno finished with a perfect 4-0 singles record through the four-match homestand completed by Dominican on Tuesday.
At the No. 4 spot on Tuesday,
Alex Wartenberg held off a late rally from the Trailblazers' Laura Hartle and finished with a 6-1, 7-5 win.
The Penguins will return to action on Saturday with a 12 p.m. road matchup at UC Santa Cruz.
