SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - The Dominican University of California women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 home victory Saturday over UC Santa Cruz.
The Penguins took two of the three doubles matchups before sweeping the six singles contests. As a result, Dominican improves its season record to 2-1.
Three members of the Dominican team earned wins in both the singles and doubles categories.
Brooke Briseño and
Skyler Schaar combined for an 8-2 result at the top doubles position and then both secured wins in singles, including a dominating 6-1, 6-1 showing from Briseño.
The other dual-victory performer Saturday was junior
Rickimae Torres, a Danville native. She paired with sophomore
Alex Wartenberg for an 8-1 win in doubles and then topped her singles opponent 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 position.Â
Also capturing singles wins were seniors
Cori Beeby and
Lauren Gollnick along with junior
Solveig Karlsen.Â
The Penguins will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 25 win a home match against American River. The start time is 12 p.m.Â
