Aimee Steinwand got the Penguins rolling with a pair of kills to start the first set. With Dominican leading 6-4, reigning PacWest Player of the Week
Kate Even recorded her first kill of the night to spark a 6-0 streak, with Even adding another kill and a block during the run. After the Penguins' run ended on an attack error, Even recorded a kill to help Dominican to a 3-0 run and a 15-5 lead. A service ace by freshman
Josie Walser put the Penguins up 17-7 before Holy Names scored three consecutive points to cut Dominican's lead to 17-10. Freshman
Catherine Johnson helped the Penguins open it back up with a kill to put the Penguins ahead 21-11 and the Hawks followed with an attack error, forcing them to take their second timeout. After the break, Even combined with junior
Cat Thomason on a block which was followed by two attack errors from Holy Names to end the set.
The Hawks opened the second set with a kill from Maddy Standley and the Penguins committed an attack error, giving Holy Names an early advantage. Dominican responded with a 4-0 run, capped by a block from junior
Brittany Latigue and sophomore
Abbie Schultz. Two consecutive kills by Even, followed by an attack error by the Hawks, gave the Penguins an 11-5 advantage. Holy Names cut it to 12-8 before Latigue recorded back-to-back kills to give Dominican a six-point edge. A service error from the Penguins made it 17-13 but the Hawks followed with a service error of their own, which was followed by a block from Even and senior
Susanna Pilkerton. A kill from Even made it 21-14 and another from Pilkerton made it 23-15. Walser followed with a service ace and Pilkerton finished the set with a kill.
In the third set, Steinwand tallied a kill to give Dominican a 5-2 lead and Even later added one of her own to extend the advantage to 8-4. Summer Vercruyssen recorded a kill to bring Holy Names back within two at 9-7. The Penguins promptly responded with a 10-run, aided by a pair of kills from freshman
Eleni Loizou, to put the set out of reach. Steinwand and Even teamed up on a block to make it 24-9 and Thomason ended the set and match with a kill.
