SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican women's volleyball hosted the Silverswords of Chaminade University Monday night for their first of three final home matches this year. The Penguins brought the energy in this one, but it was the Silverswords who would pull away in this one.
Dominican would get on the board in the first set thanks to a pair of consecutive slams by
Avery Schneider and
Alexis Schwartz. Schwartz, the freshman out of Carlsbad, led the Pengs offense in the first set collecting a couple of emphatic kills.
In the second, the Silverswords would start with a quick 8-1 run, but sophomore
Kali Young would halt the Chaminade rally with back-to-back slams assisted by fellow sophomore
Chloe Cruz. Later in the set Schneider, the senior leader, would jumpstart a Penguin rally making it hard on the Silverswords to close out the set.
Sophia Bernabe who garnered the start at libero for coach Loesch served up a couple of challenging serves that found a soft spot in the defense.
Ashlyn Daugherty who has been a bright spot this year for Dominican down low, swatted down a game high four blocks to go along with a couple of kills.
Schwartz led the Penguins in the offense posting six kills while Young was right behind her with four. Bernabe was all over the court Monday night coming up with a team high nine digs while Cruz dished out 11 assists.
