SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team secured a crucial rain-shortened victory, 6-1, over visiting Dixie State on Tuesday.
On Sunday, the Penguins (4-7) staked an early 2-1 lead in doubles play before rain delayed the match. The match resumed on Tuesday and was played to a first-of-five format, though the final two matches finished within minutes of one another.
Solveig Karlsen and
Alex Wartenberg each notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 and No. 3 singles.
Kelly Zwicker secured the win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.
Rickimae Torres and
Cori Beeby did not complete their singles matches, though both helped earn wins in doubles action.
Brooke Briseño finished right after Zwicker but also secured a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.
Dominican hosts No. 2 BYU-Hawaii on Friday, March 25 at 11 a.m.
