ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Dominican University of California women's basketball player
Allyssa Weatherd has been named to the D2CCA All-West Region Women's Basketball Second Team.
Weatherd was a two-time All-PacWest Team selection, earning
First Team honors this season and Second Team honors last season. She posted a 37-point, 14-rebound effort in the Penguins' first-round victory over Hawaii Pacific in the PacWest Championships. The career night set not only a program single-game scoring record but a tournament single-game scoring record as well.
Weatherd is 15th in the nation in NCAA Division II and led the PacWest in field goal percentage (57.8 percent). The Carrollton, Texas native led the nation in free throws attempted (258) and was fourth in free throws made (178). Weatherd was second in the PacWest in scoring with a team-high 19.8 points per game and tied for seventh in steals (2.0). The senior guard was named the
USBWA Women's Division II National Player of the Week on Feb. 2, as well as
PacWest Player of the Week. She finishes her career as Dominican's all-time leader (DII era) in points (1,038), scoring average (18.9 ppg), field goal percentage (56.7 percent), free throws made (325) and attempted (480), rebounding average (7.3 rpg), and minutes average (34.7 mpg). This season she has set program single-season records for points scored (575), scoring average (19.8 ppg), field goals made (197), free throws made and attempted, minutes (1039), and minutes average (35.8 mpg).
Weatherd was one of six PacWest players on the all-region team, followed by the CCAA with two, and one from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The 2016 D2CCA All-West Regional Women's Basketball teams were nominated and voted upon by the region's sports information directors.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
