IRVINE, Calif. — Dominican University of California women's basketball players
Allyssa Weatherd and
Sandra Ikeora have been named to the 2016 PacWest All-Conference Team. Weatherd was named to the First Team while Ikeora was named to the Second Team.
Weatherd is eighth in the nation in NCAA Division II and leads the PacWest in field goal percentage (59.1 percent). The Carrollton, Texas native leads the PacWest in minutes played per game (35.6) and free throws made (156) and attempted (228). Weatherd is third in the PacWest in scoring with a team-high 19.1 points per game and eighth in steals (2.0). The senior guard was named the
USBWA Women's Division II National Player of the Week on Feb. 2, as well as
PacWest Player of the Week. She will finish her career as Dominican's all-time leader (DII era) in points, scoring average, field goal percentage, free throws made and attempted, rebounding average, and minutes average. This season has set program single season records for points scored, scoring average, field goals made, free throws made and attempted, minutes, and minutes average. Last season, Weatherd was named to the All-PacWest Second Team.
Ikeora is second in the PacWest in blocked shots (55) and blocks per game (2.12). She has nine double-doubles and is averaging 15.2 points and a team-best 8.7 rebounds per game. The sophomore forward was also third in PacWest in field goal percentage (53.4), fourth in free throws attempted (139), and seventh in free throws made (80). Ikeora was named
PacWest Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 4-10.
The Penguins finish the regular season with their best record in program history during the DII era at 17-10 and 13-7 in PacWest action. Dominican's season will continue at the PacWest Championships at CU Arena.
