OAKLAND, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a sweep of Mills College on Saturday.
The Penguins (1-3) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with 8-0 sweeps of the NCAA DIII Cyclones in doubles play.
Rickimae Torres won her No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-0, over Christine Wu.
Cori Beeby made quick work fo Rebeca Montaño at No. 4 singles and
Lauren Gollnick made it a perfect day in her first-ever singles match. She won 6-1, 6-3 over Jade Le at No. 5 singles to go along with her doubles win with
Kelly Zwicker. Zwicker won 6-0 and was winning 1-0 when Jade Escalante bowed due to injury. Brooke Briseño also won by default due to injury and
Solveig Karlsen earned the win by default at No. 6 singles.
Dominican's match versus Notre Dame de Namur, has been postponed to a later date to be determined. The Penguins' next match will now be at home on Saturday, Feb. 27 versus No. 26 Sonoma State. First serve is slated for 11 p.m.
