SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team took advantage of a shorthanded Notre Dame de Namur squad for an 8-1 victory on Thursday afternoon.
Kelly Zwicker and
Chloe Vicari earned the 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles for their eighth doubles win while
Rickimae Torres and
Mackenzie Flanagan earned a clean 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. The shorthanded Argonauts surrendered No. 3 doubles and the Penguins cruised to an early 3-0 lead.
Karlsen and Zwicker picked up the victories at No. 5 and 6 due to NDNU's short roster. With the Penguins having already secured the victory,
Gianna Cupo, who is playing through injury, conceded her match at No. 4 singles in favor of rest. Torres earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles for her fifth straight win to improve to a team-best 8-3. Flanagan earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
Dominican hosts Division II Cal Lutheran on Saturday, March 28 at 11 a.m. then hosts an important regional matchup versus Dixie State on Sunday, March 29 at 9:30 a.m.
