SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team earned the season sweep of UH Hilo on Tuesday with a 9-0 sweep of a shorthanded Vulcans squad.

The Penguins got an early 3-0 thanks to doubles wins by Chloe Vicari and Kelly Zwicker at No. 1 doubles and Gianna Cupo and Rickimae Torres at No. 2 doubles. UH Hilo was shorthanded, which meant that the Penguins earned wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default.

Only needing one more win didn't end up being a problem as the Penguins took all five of the singles matches contested. Torres, the No. 36 player in the nation in NCAA Division II, had an epic battle with Trixie Croad. Torres took the first set 6-2, then fell even when Croad took the second set 6-3. Torres preserved the sweep by battling for every point and taking the match with a 13-11 decision to earn her fourth straight singles win and seventh overall. Cupo earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and Zwicker earned her third straight singles win and seventh overall with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Chloe Vicari earned the No. 4 singles win. After falling behind 6-1, she rebounded with a 6-0 set and took the third set 10-4. Mackenzie Flanagan took No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Dominican continues its busy week on Thursday, March 26 vs. Notre Dame de Namur. First serve is slated for 12:30 p.m. at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center in the John F. Allen Athletics Complex.
