SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team lost a crucial match on Saturday, 6-3 to Holy Names, as the Penguins look to return to the postseason and the PacWest Championships.
The No. 9 regionally-ranked Hawks currently hold the eighth and final seed to the PacWest Championships and earned their second win of the season over the Penguins. Dominican's
Rickimae Torres, the No. 36-ranked player in the nation, defeated Mariel Bautista 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 singles to move to 6-3 on the season.
Kelly Zwicker moved to 6-4 on the season with a win at No. 5 singles. She topped Amaru Hernandez 6-4, 7-5. Zwicker paired up with
Chloe Vicari at No. 1 doubles in the Penguins' only doubles win of the day, an 8-6 victory over Jessica Ho and Leticia Vieira. The pair is also 6-4 on the season.
Dominican hosts UH Hilo on Monday, March 23. The Penguins previously beat the Vulcans 7-2 during Dominican's four-match trip to Hawaii at the beginning of the month. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
