TURLOCK, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team dropped a close 5-4 road decision at Cal State Stanislaus on Friday afternoon.
The No. 9-regionally ranked Penguins spotted the unranked Warrriors a 2-1 lead in doubles play but pulled to within 4-3 in singles play with No. 1 and 3 singles still battling.
Rickimae Torres, currently ranked the No. 36 player in Division II, won her third consecutive match at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1, over Jessica Laurie. However, the Warriors' Analyssa Tallas edged Chloe Vicar in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4, to take the match.
Kelly Zwicker picked up the win at No. 4 singles, a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jessica Stokes.
Solveig Karlsen defeated Kaitlyn Irlend 6-1, 6-2 in No. 5 singles. Vicari and Zwicker earned the Penguins' double victory with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Dominican heads to Sonoma State on Saturday, Feb. 28. The Seawolves are ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division II and No. 8 in the West Region. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
