SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of Califonia women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring with a 9-0 sweep of visiting Mills College on Saturday.

The No. 9 regionally-ranked Penguins jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over the NCAA Division II Cyclones with 8-0, 8-1, and 8-0 doubles victories. Rickimae Torres and Gianna Cupo teamed up to sweep Noelani Meteyry and Chrstina Gnong in No. 1 doubles and Solveig Karlsen and Mackenzie Flanagan shut out Gwendolynn Fernstrom and Ashleigh Bell in No. 3 doubles. Chloe Vicari and Kelly Zwicker topped Alice Hewitt and Sophia Wasteneys 8-1 in No. 2 doubles play.

Torres, ranked No. 36 in the nation, picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory oer Meteyry. Zwicker, who played No. 5 singles, and Flanagan, who played No 6 singles, both also picked up sweeps in their respective singles matches. Vicari and Karlsen won the No. 3 and No. 4 single matches, 6-1, 6-0. Gianna Cupo had the biggest challenge of the day in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Hewitt in No. 2 singles play.

Dominican faces Holy Names on Sunday, Feb. 22. The date and location have been changed to 1 p.m. at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
