Without regular libero Amanda Lee, the Penguins went 12 players deep, including four freshmen, but never quite found a rhythm. In set two, sophomore setter Hannah Smith recorded a kill, then went back to serve and served the next eight points as Dominican went from down a point to a 15-8 lead. A 6-1 run and a 3-0 run capped off the Penguins' set two victory.

Western Oregon controlled the rest of the match though. A Shannon Riggio-Kerley service ace capped a three-point run and gave the Penguins a 7-6 lead in set three but that's the last lead that Dominican would lead.
