Box ScoreSAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team topped Dixie State University on Friday to win its fourth consecutive match and surpass its win total from 2013. The four-match win streak set program records for most wins in a season and longest winning streak in the NCAA Division II era.
The No. 10 regionally-ranked Penguins (8-4) took an early 2-1 lead with an 8-1 doubles victory by
Irina Morozova and
Emily Prescott and an 8-5 doubles victory by
Chloe Vicari and
Caitlin Aloia.
Francesca Katafias and
Kelly Zwicker nearly made it a clean sweep but fell in a close 9-8, 7-5 decision to Sierra Smith and Zenja Draca.
Morozova secured the No. 1 singles victory by taking the tiebreaker, 5-7, 7-5, 10-1, while
Emily Prescott took No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Aloia, and Katafias won their No. 3 and No. 6 singles matches, respectively.
Dominican will look to upset the newest member of the PacWest in women's tennis, No. 35 nationally-ranked Sonoma State, on Saturday, April 5. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the John F. Allen Athletics Complex.
