OAKLAND, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team earned a hard-fought sweep of Holy Names University on Saturday.
The No. 10 regionally-ranked Penguins (6-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play with 8-3 victories at No. 1 and 2 doubles.
Irina Morozova and
Emily Prescott, who entered well rested after having not played in the Penguins' 9-0 sweep of NDNU earlier in the week, took 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 victories, respectively, in No. 1 and No. 2 singles play.
Caitlin Aloia needed a tiebreaker but after falling behind early, won her set at No. 3 singles 5-7, 6-4, 11-9. No. 4 singles player
Chloe Vicari also needed a tiebreaker to earn the victory, 6-4, 3-5, 10-5.
Dominican will have a chance to match its win total from 2013 on Sunday, March 23 versus UH Hilo. The match is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. at the John F. Allen Athletics Complex.
