Women's tennis bounces back at Cal State Stanislaus

Francesca Katafias won both of her matches in Saturday's 6-3 victory at Cal State Stanislaus.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team battled to a closely contested 6-3 victory at Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.

It was a nice bounceback for the No. 10 regionally-ranked Penguins (4-2), who last fell 8-1 to No. 26 Academy of Art University.

Francesca Katafias had a strong day, earning the No. 6 singles win 6-4, 6-0 over Jessica Stokes, and an 8-4 No. 3 doubles victory with parter Emily Prescott over Stokes and Kaitlyn Ireland. The victories were Katafias' third win in the last four matches in both singles and doubles play.

Irina Morozova took No. 1 singles action with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory while Kelly Zwicker made quick work of Ireland, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 5 singles action. Prescott delivered the No. 2 singles victory but required a tiebreaker in doing so. She fell 3-6 but won 6-2 and took the tiebreaker 11-9.

Caitlin Aloia and Chloe Vicari earned the No. 1 doubles victory, 8-5, over J'Ana Diamond and Jessica Laurie.

The Penguins host NCAA Division I Southern Utah on Sunday, March 9 at 12:00 p.m.
