Chloe Vicari prevented the Dominican University of California women's tennis team from being swept in its spring opener on Saturday in an 8-1 loss at Sonoma State.
The junior, who transferred from Sierra College where she was the number one doubles player and number two singles player in Northern California, proved her immediate impact with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sheena Johnson in No. 4 singles play.
Another transfer,
Caitlin Aloia, had a late surge but fell in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2, to Leire Martinez. No. 1 singles player
Irina Morozova fell 6-1, 6-1 to Sara Celma.
Morozova and Aloia paired up in No. 1 doubles competition but fell 8-2 to Celma and Kaitlyn Haithcock.
The Penguins will now travel to Fresno Pacific University for a 1:00 p.m. match on Friday, Feb. 7.
