Box Score 2 ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team finished up the weekend with a pair of losses in the Seawolf Spike hosted by Sonoma State. The Penguins fell in four sets (25-20, 26-28, 25-19, 25-15) to Chico State and rallied from down 2-1 but eventually fell in five sets (21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-27, 15-4) to Cal State Stanislaus.
Jessica Jones had 15 kills in her return to the lineup against Chico State and finished the day with 24 kills, five service aces, and 34 digs. While Dominican saw a boost from its senior outside hitter, the Penguins were forced to play the entire weekend with senior setter
Kelsey Lardner, who sustained an ankle injury earlier in the week.
Dominican trailed early in set one versus the Wildcats (3-3) before tying the match at 7-7. A 7-1 run catapulted Dominican (1-7) ahead 13-8 but three Lindsay Quiqley kills and a Molly Ratto service ace quickly shifted the lead back toe the Wildcats.
Dominican pushed the Wildcats to the limits in set two and eventually grabbed its first set of the tournament with a 28-26 decision, fueled by strong service by
Hannah Stocking-Siagkris and 11 errors on the part of Chico State.
The Penguins made a late run in set three but were unable to recover from an early deficit and fell victim by the same means in set four.
Against Cal State Stanislaus (3-5), Dominican capitalized on early errors to take an early 9-5 lead and despite falling behind 21-20, scored five consecutive points to take set one 25-21.
Set two was close throughout but tied at 19-19, Jocelyn Cervantes recorded a kill to give the Warriors the set lead for good.
Dominican built a 5-0 lead in sett three on Jones's serving, which included a pair of service aces.
Amanda Wasko's service ace built the lead to 10-5 but Dominican failed to pull away. Instead the Warriors tied it at 23-23 and scored six of the final seven points to take the lead, 2-1.
The Penguins jumped out to another early lead in set four and extended the lead to 15-9 on good service from
Valerie Larsen and three attack errors by the Warriors. Dominican fended off a five-point Warriors run after falling behind late and scored the last three points to force a deciding set.
Cervantes proved too much in the deciding set, as she put down five of her match-high 18 kills to give the victory to the Warriors.
Amanda Wasko tied Cervantes with a match-high 18 kills and finished her day with 25, kills, three aces, nine block assits, and 23 digs. Stocking-Siagkris chipped in 14 kills and 39 digs, including 29 versus the Warriors.
