Women's soccer closes out 2013 campaign on winning note

Megan Herring recorded her eighth shutout of the season as Dominican finished the season with a 2-0 victory at NDNU.
Box Score BELMONT, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team closed out the 2013 season strong with a 2-0 victory over rival Notre Dame de Namur University on Saturday in Pacific West Conference play.

The victory helped Dominican seal a perfect 3-0 conference mark against opponents in the PacWest's Bay Area pod. Dominican bested Holy Names University 2-0 and Academy of Art University 3-0, both back in early October.

The Penguins (7-9-2/4-7-1) outshot the Argonauts (5-11-1/3-7-1) and it finally paid off in the 42nd minute. Mckenna Kimball put the Penguins (7-9-2) up with a header off the Stephanie Pawek corner. Another 42 minutes passed by until the 85th minute, when Kimball found Jessica Ramirez, whose shot from 30 yards out went over the keeper's head and found the back of the net.

Kimball finishes the season with a team-leading 15 points as a result of six goals and three assists, both also team-bests.

Goalkeeper Megan Herring notched a season-high eighth save of the season after stopping all three balls that came her way.

The Penguins matched their win total from 2012 under first year Head Coach Tara Koleski. Dominican graduates five seniors including two goalkeepers in Herring and Kelly Calton, as well as starting midfielder Carrie Freyer and starting defenders Kathryn Ripple and Kaitlynn Baptista.

"Today was a great end for our program. Having battled all season and being in each game tightly, today was the way we were striving to end on. I have been more than impressed with our transformation and commitment to bettering our game," said Koleski. "I am grateful for the seniors and their time at Dominican. Each of them impacted this program and should feel confident that they are leaving a program better than they found it. I look forward to the road ahead."
