Women's volleyball tests No. 6 BYU-Hawaii

Jessica Jones and the Penguins made it close in set one vs. No. 6 BYU-Hawaii.
Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team put a good scare into number six-ranked BYU-Hawaii on Saturday night but fell in three sets (26-24, 25-12, 25-17).

The momentum from Dominican's victory on Friday night seemingly carried over as the Penguins (2-14/1-7) stayed with the Seasiders (11-1/6-1). Despite trailing by as many as six points, Dominican evened the set at 22-23 after a three-point run, all as the result of BYUH errors. Erh Fang Hsu gave the Seasiders the lead back but Hannah Stocking-Siagrkis was there to even it again for Dominican. A kill and an error gave the Seasiders the first set though.

In set two, a 9-1 run gave the Seasiders an early 12-3 lead. BYU-Hawaii posted a .645 hitting percentage in the set en route to the 25-12 victory.

Another slow start in set three found the Penguins trailing 8-2 and while they pulled back within four points, couldn't catch up, dropping the set 25-17.

Shih Ting Chen led BYU-Hawaii with 17 kills on .405 hitting.

Jessica Jones had eight kills and Susanna Pilkerton added seven kills in the loss. Amanda Lee had 10 digs.

"We had some confidence coming off of last night's win and we showed some resilience in that first set tonight. We battled hard and made them work for every point." said Head Coach Gayle Stammer. "There's a reason that they're ranked in the top ten in the country. We'll build on what we did against Hilo and take the positives from tonight and prepare for Monday night."

The Penguins continue their homestand on Monday, Oct. 8 when Chaminade University visits. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m. with live coverage at dominicanathletics.com/live.
