Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Lady Penguins might want to play every game at the Conlan Center. Dominican University of California women's volleyball team won its third straight match and second straight at the Igloo, sweeping NAIA opponent William Jessup University in straight sets by the scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-12 Friday night.
Dominican (4-6) took care of business early, heading into the intermission up two sets to none over William Jessup (2-16). The Lady Penguins were paced by juniors
Hannah Stocking-Siagkris (7 kills) and
Jessica Jones (10 kills) as Dominican took off early, staking themselves to a 7-1 lead in set one. The lead was pushed all the way to 13-6 before the Warriors were forced to call their first timeout. William Jessup made it a one point game, 21- 20, before Dominican took control — and the set — 25-21.
The second was less nerve-wracking, Sophomore
Samantha Rains (10 kills) had five kills to go along with two service aces. Stocking-Siagkris continued her strong play, recording four more kills and three service aces. Junior setter
Kelsey Lardner also netted three services aces. Dominican were sharp on defense, limiting the Warriors chances and taking set two by the final of 25-18
"Coming into tonight, we expected to win," Rains said about Dominican's dominating performance.
That expectation came to fruition as the train kept rolling after the 10-minute intermission. The Lady Penguins had every aspect of their game clicking. The defense had seven blocks, and the combination of Rains and Jones put Dominican in the driver's seat as they coasted to a 25-12 set three win, clinching the match. Rains finished her night with 10 kills.
Undefeated at home thus far, Rains and the Lady Penguins have long put the woes of past season behind them.
"This is a lot better than last year," said the six-footer. "We trust each other and the dynmatic is there. At this point, anything is possible. We just have to keep it going."
The non-conference win pushes Dominican's overall record to 4-6, as they look to face Pacific West Conference rival UH-Hilo on Sept. 25 at home. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PST. Live stat and video coverage will be available at
