SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team battled throughout three sets Friday evening at the Conlan Center, falling to Point Loma.
The Penguins showcased their resilience in the third set, recording nine kills and keeping the contest close before Point Loma secured the final set, 25-22.
Leading the Dominican offense, sophomore Alexis Schwartz delivered a team-high 10 kills, adding two service aces and 12.5 points. Freshman Kalaya Phung contributed six kills, while Cierra Ray added five kills and a service ace.
At the net, Dominican recorded five total blocks, with three players each contributing two blocks. The Penguins also found success from the service line, tallying four aces.
Defensively, Sophia Bernabe led the Penguins with 22 digs, while Ray added 10 digs. Junior Chloe Cruz paced the setting game with 17 assists.
Dominican finished the match with 29 kills, 26 assists, 57 digs and five total blocks, continuing to compete through the final points of the match. The Penguins will turnaround and host CUI tomorrow at 2 p.m.
