Hannah Stocking-Siagkris followed up a career performance with 10 kills on Saturday but the Dominican University of California women's volleyball team was unable to keep the momentum going and fell in three sets to Holy Names University.
The Hawks (1-2), one of the newest members of the 14-team Pacific West Conference, were tough at the net and as a team recorded 20 block assists to repel Dominican (1-2) in the Lady Penguins' final game at the Humboldt State Tournament.
In set one neither team led for more than two points either way until the Hawks rallied for six straight points to take a 22-14 advantage. The Hawks then committed two errors but took the final three points of the first set to win 25-16.
The Lady Penguins trailed early, 8-3, in set two before using a 7-1 run of their own to take a 10-9 lead. The Hawks rallied back again though and captured set two with a 12-3 run.
Set three was another close battle but Dominican ran out of steam. With a 21-16 lead, the Hawks rallied back yet again, this time with a 9-2 run to end the match. Rachel Vartanian closed it out for the Hawks with one of her team-high 10 kills.
In addition to her 10 kills and pair of service aces, Stocking-Siagkris also played well defensively, leading all players with 12 digs. Sophomore
