SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — It was wet, rainy, windy, and muddy on Tuesday but that didn't stop the Dominican University of California men's lacrosse team. The Penguins allowed an early goal but unleashed for 13 unanswered goals en route to a 15-8 victory over visiting Lindenwood University in Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and what will go down in history as the final official game played at Forest Meadows Field.

After falling behind 1-0 early, Dalton Copeland's goal with 10:43 to go in the first quarter began the 13-goal Penguins (4-4/3-1) run. In that span, eight different Dominican players scored. The Penguins led 9-1 after the first quarter and built a 13-2 halftime lead. The Penguins scored twice in the third quarter while allowing three goals in the third and fourth quarters but by then the damage had been done.

"We went in with keys to victory and executed them," said Head Coach Ned Webster. "It felt good to go into the locker room after the game, look at the whiteboard and see that we achieved all of those goals. That's why we were successful today."

In all, the Penguins were led by Kevin Powers' five goals and two assists. Fellow freshman Jake Bernstein recorded a hat trick. Junior Cam Evangelho and senior Reed Upson each added a goal and a pair of assists. Sophomore middie Blake Crossman, who was successful on 11 of his 13 faceoff attempts, also netted a pair of goals. Freshman Kiel Crowley-Galvin netted his first career goal in the win and Emmett Faricy rounded out goal scorers with one. Dylan Acevedo and Jake Fritz each added an assist.

Brock Beall led all players with six groundballs, especially impressive under the wet circumstances.

Sean Donohue earned the victory in net with five saves and 33:16 minutes logged. Goalies Ryan Williams and Nick Dellipizzi had a save each.

Andrew Szczepan led the Lions (3-5/1-4) with four goals.

"Forest Meadows Field holds a lot of memories, my favorite Dominican players have all played there," reminisced Webster. "We're excited about the future but a part of me is sad to see Forest Meadows go."

The Penguins will play their Senior Day game vs. Colorado Mesa University on Friday, March 30 on the artificial turf at Marin Catholic High School. The Senior Day pregame ceremony will honor the team's six seniors — Faricy, Upson, Matt Polizzi, Corey Whelan, Geraldo Gonzalez, and Ben Wang. Next season the Penguins will play on their own turf field, Kennelly Field, which is part of the new John F. Allen Athletics Complex, set to open later in 2012.
