BOX SCORE
BELMONT, Calif. — Senior
Jamie Fernandez won her fourth consecutive singles match and
Irina Morozova and
Gaby Verspieren improved their season's doubles record to 6-1 on Sunday as the Dominican University of California women's tennis team blanked Notre Dame de Namur University 9-0.
The Lady Penguins (2-5) won every game in doubles as Morozova and Verspieren defeated the Argonauts' Rebecca Corteza and Morganna Thompson-Hayes 8-0 at the same time
Jessica Curlett and freshman
Jobeth Pascual were downing NDNU's No. 2 doubles team, Katie Rosas and Maria Galindo, by the same score.
“I am very happy with the consistent improvement of our team. Especially Jobeth and Jessica playing their best doubles match thus far,” said Head Coach
Greg Kennett. “Our schedule gets difficult from here and I think we are starting to perform where we can be successful in these next few weeks.”
Fernandez also won love-love against her Argonauts' opponent in No. 3 singles, upping her season's record to 4-2.
Ariana Paradis, playing No. 1 singles for the first time this season, defeated NDNU's top player, Rebecca Corteza, 6-4, 6-2.
Verspieren, Pascual, and Curlett all won their singles matches, losing only five games between them. For Verspieren, a transfer from NCAA Division I Gonzaga, it was her third straight victory at No. 2 singles. She has lost only eight games during that winning streak.
Morozova slid all the way down to the No. 6 singles spot and won by default. Paradis and Fernandez were also awarded a win by default in the No. 3 doubles spot.
Dominican is off until Saturday, February 25 when the Lady Penguins travel to Turlock to play Cal State Stanislaus. First serve is slated for 12:00 p.m.
