SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team fell 7-2 to the University of Hawai'i, Hilo in Saturday's season finale at Forest Meadows Tennis Courts.
Junior
Jamie Fernandez and senior
Anh Truong earned the individual victories for Dominican. Fernandez came from behind and to earn the No. 3 victory over Janelle Ng. Truong continued her consistent play with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Morrisa Kahakui.
It was a close battle in doubles play but the Lady Penguins were unable to come away with a victory. The No. 1 freshmen duo of
Irina Morozova and
Shannon McCarthy-Contreras fell 9-7 to Stacie Grant and Kelsey Daguio. Fernandez and senior
Tami Tan also fell 9-7 to Ng and Lindsey Shin. Senior
Michele Freitas and Truong were bested 8-6 in No. 3 doubles by Kahakui and Anna Hamlin.
The Vulcans improve to 4-7 while Dominican concludes the season with a 6-12 mark. It was a disappointing finish to the season for the Lady Penguins, who double their win count from a season ago and finished seventh in the Pacific West Conference Championship this season.
