SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team finally avoided the rain and recorded a 9-0 sweep of Notre Dame de Namur Univeristy on Saturday at Forest Meadows Tennis Courts.
The Lady Penguins (5-8) saw strong play from freshman
Shannon McCarthy-Contreras. She paired with fellow freshman
Irina Morozova for an 8-0 number one doubles victory and spelled Morozova in her first start in the number one singles spot. There, McCarthy-Contreras recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rebecca Corteza.
Junior
Jamie Fernandez and senior
Tami Tan won the number two doubles match, 8-3, against Leslie Elg and Kala Fisher. Fernandez slid up to the number two singles position and earned the 6-3, 6-0 victory over Morganna Thompson-Hayes. Senior
Michele Freitas earned the number three victory with a sweep of Fisher and senior
Anh Truong bested Elg 6-2, 6-0 in number four singles play.
Dominican won the number three doubles match and the number five and six singles matches by default.
The Dominican women host Academy of Art University on Sunday, April 3. First serve is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Forest Meadows Tennis Courts.
