BOX SCORE

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team fell 5-0 to Sonoma State on Friday afternoon in a rain-shortened match. Rain washed away doubles play and did not allow for the finish of the number one singles set between Dominican freshman Irina Morozova and SSU senior Dana Carollo.

The Dominican women, who had their last two matches rained out, stepped foot on the courts for a match for the first time in 20 days. It showed, as no Dominican player fared better than 6-1 in their first set. Freshman Shannon McCarthy-Contreras was one of those players. She fell 6-2 in her second set. Junior Jamie Fernandez was swept in her first set at the number four singles matchup and played much stronger in her second set but eventually fell 6-4. Senior Anh Truong fell 6-1, 6-1 and senior Michele Freitas and junior Ryan Paulus were both shut out.

Dominican falls to 4-8 while Sonoma State improves to 8-4.

The Lady Penguins have the rest of the month off. They'll return to action on Saturday, April 2 when Notre Dame de Namur visits Forest Meadows Field for an 11:00 a.m. match. In their first meeting of the season, Dominican swept 9-0.
