BELMONT, Calif. — A day after sweeping NCAA Division III Mills College, the Dominican University of California women's tennis team improved to .500 on the early season with a sweep over shorthanded Notre Dame de Namur University on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Irina Morozova defeated the Argonauts' Rebecca Corteza 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles spot and fellow freshman
Shannon McCarthy-Contreras defeated Morganna Thompson-Hayes 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles spot.
Senior
Michele Freitas and junior
Jamie Fernandez won the No. 3 and 4 singles matches each by the scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Junior
Ryan Paulus and sophomore
Jessica Curlett won by default in the No. 5 and 6 singles matches.
In doubles competition, Morozova and McCarthy-Contreras bested Corteza and Thompson-Hayes 8-0. Senior
Tami Tan and Paulus earned the number two doubles match 8-0 over Kala Fisher and Leslie Elg. Curlett and Fernandes won the number three match by default.
The Lady Penguins return to San Rafael for an exhibition against Foothill College on Tuesday, Feb. 15. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the Forest Meadows Tennis Courts on the Dominican campus.
