Lady Penguins Fall to Division I Southern Utah

Anh Truong and the Lady Penguins fell to Division I Southern Utah University on Friday afternoon.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team suffered its first loss (2-1) on Friday afternoon, dropping a 9-0 decision to Division I Southern Utah University, at Forest Meadows Tennis Courts.

Southern Utah improved to 3-0 as the Thunderbirds' Olga Tatarchenko topped Stephanie Lemp 6-1, 6-3 in the number one single play. Ksusha Nazarova swept Michele Freitas in the number two slot. Anh Truong played Kirrily Burden tough but eventually fell 6-4, 6-1 in the number three spot. Caskey Cunningham and Jessica Curlett both fell in their matches 6-1, 6-0. Brittany Lewis fell behind early 6-0 but made things closer the second time around, falling 6-2, in the number six position.

Lemp and Freitas fell 8-2 in doubles play against the Russian duo of Nazarova and Tatarchenko. The Lady Penguins were swept in their remaining two doubles matchups.

Dominican has a busy week ahead, as they face Dixie State College two consecutive times on Tuesday, March 9 and Saturday, March 13. Then the Lady Penguins play a doubleheader on Sunday, March 14 against Academy of Art University, which includes a makeup match from a March 3 rainout at AAU.
