Lemp Bright Spot in Domincan Loss to Dixie State

Michele Freitas started in the number one singles spot in Dominican's loss to Dixie State on Saturday.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Four days after taking no. 50 Dixie State College to the wire, the Dominican University of California women's tennis team struggled in a rematch against their Pacific West Conference foe, falling 8-1.

Stephanie Lemp, sliding down from her usual number one singles spot, took the win as the number two player over Lydia Hays with scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Michele Freitas, playing as the number one player for the first time this season, fell to Alicia Holm 6-1, 6-4.

Dominican was swept by the Red Storm, ranked no. 10 in the West Region, in doubles. Tami Tan and Anh Truong played Hays and Ashley Lafeen close in the number two slot but fell 8-5.

The Dominican women are right back it on Sunday, March 14 when another PacWest program, Academy of Art University, visits for a doubleheader of matches set at 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
