Lorenz Foster-Simbulan awaits a serve

Penguin back in the win column

Box Score FRESNO, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis got back into the win column topping Cal State LA 4-0 Friday afternoon at Haak Tennis Center.

Lorenza Foster-Simbulan and Maria Gavrilov got the Penguins (8-7) off to a strong start as they edged their Golden Eagle (1-8) competitors 6-4. Hideka Takamura and Georgiana Parr answered with a 6-3 victory in No. 3 doubles to even the segment for Cal State LA. No. 1 doubles was a seesaw match with Kaylee Lopez and Sofia Acuña able to edge Maldini Simic and Sofia Pavlova 7-5 to give the team point to Dominican.

Foster-Simbulan continued her momentum from doubles as she claimed the first victory of singles with a. 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles. Ana Rios added a 6-2, 6-2 victory moments later to put the Penguins within a point of the clinch at No. 5 singles. Gavrilov took the honors of the clinching victory as she topped Pavlova in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. 

Dominican will get some needed rest before it takes on Menlo at Cartan Tennis Courts on Thursday at noon PDT in Atherton.
