SAN FRANCISCO –
Emanuel Hurley and Diego Alas each moved into Dominican's all-time top 20 in the 8K on Friday as the Penguins competed at the San Francisco State Invitational at Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park.
Chico State swept the team titles, scoring 15 points in the men's race and 22 in the women's race, while Westmont finished runner-up in both. Dominican placed sixth in the men's standings with 178 points, finishing 11 points ahead of Cal State East Bay, while the women took seventh with 196 points.
Diego Montag led the Dominican men in 33rd place with a 26:31.7. He won one of the closest finishes of the afternoon, crossing just one-tenth of a second ahead of San Jose State's Diego Cortes. Hurley followed as Dominican's second finisher and produced the Penguins' first record-book move of the day. The sophomore placed 63rd in 28:06.5, lowering his previous 8K best of 28:21.0 by 14.5 seconds. The performance moves Hurley to No. 15 on Dominican's updated all-time 8K list.
Alas was next for the Penguins, placing 73rd in a personal-best 28:22.1. He cut 27 seconds from the 28:49.1 he ran at the Saint Mary's Invitational and moves to No. 17 in program history.
Dario Rodriguez crossed in 78th at 28:37.9, with freshman
Malik Dekli completing Dominican's scoring five in 81st at 28:41.2. Jeroam Wood-Piña followed in 93rd with a 29:49.7,
Ishaan Iyer finished 99th in 30:59.0 and
Isaac Robinson was 102nd in 31:26.9.
Aidan Gerdeman placed 104th at 32:13.8 with Jailen Truitt-Johnson the final finisher of the afternoon for Dominican crossing in 33:08.2 to place 109th.
Tatyana Robles paced the Dominican women, placing 53rd in 24:06.1.
Jessica Carvalho followed in 62nd at 24:27.9, edging Cal State San Bernardino's Diana Vera by one-tenth of a second.
Sarah Chavez was Dominican's third finisher, taking 69th in 24:46.9, while
Sadie Choi placed 84th in 26:01.6. Madeline Beaton completed the scoring five in 87th with a personal-best 26:55.6, shaving five seconds from the 27:00.6 she recorded at the Jessup Invitational.
Bella Vasquez rounded out the Dominican contingent in 97th at 30:56.0.
Dominican will conclude its regular season meets Saturday, October 17 at the Bronco Invite at Baylands Park in Santa Clara.
