Braenwynne Matthews wasted no time bringing the energy as she collected the first points of the match, and the first kill of the day for the Pengs. Dominican would jump out to an early lead in the first set thanks in part to Matthews and freshman
Alexis Schwartz who were constantly putting pressure on the LMU defense.
Schwartz, coming off a team high in kills last night, finished this one with a game high 18 kills to go along with three digs. Matthews was right behind her with 14.
Lincoln Memorial would rally late to win the first set, but Dominican regrouped and came out determined for the second. The Railsplitters would go on an early 4-0 run until Schwartz said that was enough as she collected two straight kills on assists from fellow freshman
Ayla Johanski. Johanski, the San Marcos native, was everywhere on the court for the Pengs dishing out a team high 19 assists while serving up one ace.
Later in the second set, the Pengs were causing havoc on the block.
Kianna Rohner and
Lillianna Peterson swatted down a couple blocks to bring Dominican within striking distance. Rohner, the freshman out of Washington would finish the match with a game high five blocks. Matthews and Schwartz slammed home two consecutive kills for the 25-23 set victory.
