HONOLULU, Hawaii.- Dominican women's volleyball traveled to the big island to square off against the Silverswords of Chaminade University Thursday night. However, this was a non-conference matchup. The Penguins would jump out the gates fast and put pressure on the Silverswords as they took the first set 25-22. Chaminade would ultimately regroup and show why they're the reigning conference champions winning this match three sets to one.
Freshman
Alexis Schwartz, who has had a strong start to her young career, once again led the Penguins offense slamming home 12 kills to go along with seven digs.
Kali Young, the sophomore out of South Carolina, was right behind her posting 11 kills while digging out six.
In the first set the Pengs found themselves down early, but junior transfer
Kiara Milar led the comeback forcing four consecutive attacking errors on Chaminade. Midway through the first set junior
Ashlyn Daugherty flashed her nifty serves as she was able to catch the Silverswords sleeping collecting a couple of aces.
The duo of Schwartz and Young gave Chaminade fits all night, and late in the first set the duos attacking energy helped seal the set win.
Chloe Cruz, the Cerritos native, was instrumental on setting up Schwartz and Young as she finished the match with a team high 16 assists. Milar was right behind her with 15 and eight digs.
Dominican will wrap up their Hawaiian road trip as they travel to Hilo Saturday to take on the Vulcans at 10 p.m. PST.
