Penguins fall to Matadors

Box Score SAN JOSE, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis fell 7-0 Sunday afternoon to Cal State Northridge at Spartan Tennis Complex.
 
The loss to the Matadors (3-5) was the second such loss to an NCAA Division I opponent for the Penguins (5-2) this season who are currently undefeated against NCAA Division II competition. Yuliia Zhytelna and Annette Robertson captured the first match of the day for CSUN as they won No. 3 singles 6-1 with Emma Moratalla Sanz and Elena Goodman following close behind with a 6-2 victory to secure the doubles point.
 
Sydney Wilson added a 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 6 singles to give the Matadors the first point of the segment. Angela Ho added a 6-1, 6-1 victory to put CSUN within a point of the clinching point. Audrey Rafols kept it close on the top court but ultimately lost 6-4, 6-3 to Zhytelna who secured the match clinching point. Gina Dudley was the lone player of Dominican to claim a set over the Matadors as she topped Victoria Santibañez Luna in the second set of a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 loss.
 
Dominican will have a week to prepare for its next match as it travels south to take on Stanislaus State on Sunday at Stan State Tennis Courts at noon PST.
