LODI, Calif. – Dominican men's cross country finished seventh while women's cross country finished ninth at the Pacific Invitational on Friday evening at Micke Grove Golf Course.
Saint Mary's won the men's 8k with a score of 23 points with UC Davis in second at 61 points. The Penguins finished with 193 points in the race. The Gaels were also the team champion for the women's side finishing with 38 points while UC Davis was close behind with 40 points. Dominican had a team score of 285 in the 6k.
Diego Montag continued to lead the Penguins on the men's side as he edged out unattached Anthony Vazquez and Clovis Community College's Joaquin McGee by two seconds as he outkicked them to the finish line to place 39th with a time of 26:59.2. Jeroam Wood-Piña was the next to cross the finish line for Dominican as he was a tight battle with Victor Alvarado-Pedroza of Clovis CC but outstretched him at the finish line to finish 67th overall with a time of 30:37.7, a tenth of a second faster ahead of Alvarado-Pedroza.
Javier Machado finished with a time of 32:29.0 to finish 70th overall. Worth Gutierrez added a time of 38:03.6 in his first 8k for the cross country team to finish 74th while Starlight (José) Lain-Straus was right behind him in 75th with a time of 40:26.2.
Miranda Lam set a new personal best in her second 6k as a Penguin with a time of 26:16.5 as she paced herself with Saint Mary's Britney Perera to shave off 24 seconds from her time last week to finish 82nd overall.
Sarah Chavez was not far behind finishing 86th overall with a time of 26:27.1 to top a pair of runners from Clovis Community College.
Karsyn Walton crossed the finish line in 28:23.9 to finish 94th on the individual leaderboard topping runners form Pacific and UC Merced.
Sienna Fassett took a minute off her time from a week ago to finish 103rd with a time of 30:02.2 while
LaNicia Ellis rounded out the team score with a 105th place finish with a time of 39:25.6, a new personal best.
The men compete next at the Jessup Invite on Saturday, September 28, while the women will race next at the San Francisco Invitational on Friday, October 11.
