Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Zach Fidel

Conlan Center Electric in Home Opener

Dominican women's volleyball had their home opener Wednesday night against Sonoma State University, and it was loud. Very loud.

Dubbed as the "black out" fans packed Conlan Center as the first 200 fans in attendance received food from Forrest Fire BBQ. The Penguins fed off the energy from their fans as they fought in every set but would end up falling to the Seawolves 3 sets to 1.

Dominican led the Seawolves in two categories Wednesday night, blocks and aces. The Penguins grabbed nine blocks on the night, four of them came from graduate student Edee Leslie and three from senior Amani Abed.

Defensive specialist Sophia Hull had her serves working in this one as she posted five aces which was a game high. Right behind her with two aces was freshman Braenwynne Matthews.

Matthews would also notch nine kills which was second behind sophomore Avery Schneider who finished with 10 kills. This is the second straight game Schneider has gone for 10 kills in a match.

Up next for Dominican is a trip up to Rohnert Park where they will play in the Seawolf Classic. They will face CSU Monterey Bay Friday Sept. 8 at 12:15 p.m.
