Penguins Fight Tough Against Eagles

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's volleyball fell to Biola 3 sets to 0 in their PacWest match at Conlan Center.

The Penguins had a quick turnaround from last night's 7 p.m. match against Westmont to meet the Eagles at 1 p.m. today. This was the second time Dominican has faced off with the Eagles this season.

On the attack, Dominican's Braenwynne Matthews led both teams with 10 kills. The Idaho native also posted eight digs. On the opposite end of the ball, Miekayla Surnip had great coverage of the floor with 13 digs on the match to prove it. Freshman Christina Muller had a game-high 14 assists.

Despite being the underdog of the match, the Penguins took an early lead in set one and earned themselves the first two points of the day. The remainder of the set consisted of both teams trading points, with four ties and three lead changes. The Eagles took the final lead to close out the set 25-19.

Dominican fought hard in the second set despite the Eagles taking an early lead. The Penguins kept their spirits up and were able to keep play alive for four match points before the Eagles could close the set.  In the last set, Dominican came out with great energy which led to them taking an early lead. At the end, Biola showed why they're first in the PacWest.

The Penguins will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 4th for their home match at 7 p.m. against Chaminade.
