SEATTLE –
Jared Wright is set to make Dominican men's cross country history this week as he races in the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country Championships held in Seattle as part of the D2 Festival.
Wright has had an amazing run as a Dominican athlete breaking records as a freshman during Dominican's COVID-shortened spring season to overcoming an ankle injury during the PacWest Championships on his way to shatter the Penguins 10k record by over two minutes. His time of 30:33.08 earned him All-West Region Honors as a top-10 finisher and while he did not earn an automatic qualification, the time held up and sent him through to the championships as an at-large selection.
Now he sets his sights on one more Dominican first, All-American. Earning such recognition will require a top-40 finish in wet and cold conditions due to a winter storm hitting the region on Friday. The conditions will be familiar for Wright who faced similar conditions two weeks ago in Billings at the NCAA West Regional meet.
The biggest comparison to the field of runners Wright will face came in October at the Lewis Conference Crossover which featured top teams and runners from across the country. Wright finished in 24:30.4 to finish 17th at the 8k, a time that gives hope he can finish in the top 40 on Friday morning in the biggest race of his career.
The men's race starts at 10 a.m. PST and will be video streamed live at
