Box Score DENVER – Dominican women's tennis fell 7-0 Thursday in its first road match of the season against Metro State at Denver Tennis Park.
Snowy conditions forced the teams to move the match inside, a first for the Penguins (1-5). The Roadrunners (2-5) took advantage as Brooklyn Ross and Isabel Heras took the No. 1 doubles match 6-1 with Helena Steenberg and Lilly Stienemeier clinching the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court two. Marie Cool and Gala Castello capped off doubles with a 6-2 victory for Metro State.
Dominican was able to adjust to the new conditions in singles led by freshman
Zoe Coggins efforts in No. 5 singles versus Stienemeir. The two traded games for most of the match with Coggins taking the narrow 6-3 victory in the first set before Stienemeier eeked out a 7-6 (6) victory in the second set. The tiebreaker proved just as narrow with Stienemeir pulling out the narrow 10-6 victory for the singles point.
Sophomore
Kamar Alajeely also had a tight battle with Castello on the fourth court, but Castello was able to hold her off for the 6-2, 7-5 match victory. On the top court, Ross narrowly defeated the Penguins
Amber Del Rosario 6-3 in the first set and used that momentum for the 6-1 victory in the second set.
